Your questions answered

When will the home I am successful for be ready to view?
Homes are advertised as soon as we receive notice that the current tenant wishes to move. Once the tenant hands back the keys our contractors, Kier, will go into the home and carry-out health and safety checks and complete any necessary repair work.

Repair work can take one to three months, in some cases it can take longer than this. We will contact you to let you know when the home will be ready to view.

What is a multiple viewing?
A multiple viewing is where we invite more than one person to view a home at the same time, usually the top three.

Why is a multiple viewing completed?
Multiple viewings are carried out on specific homes in the city, for example bungalows. We do this to try to reduce the number of refusals we receive in order to allow us to let homes to you more quickly.

At the multiple viewing who will be offered the home first?
We will always offer the home first to the person with the highest priority on the shortlist that comes to the viewing. If this person refuses, we will then offer it to the second person with the highest priority and so on until the home is let. If you fail to attend the viewing then we will probably be unable to make you the offer of the home.

Can I bring someone with me to a viewing?
Yes, you can bring a family member, support worker, advocate or friend. If it is a multiple viewing and you need to bring more than two people with you please let us know.

What will happen at the viewing?
You will be met at the home by a housing officer from the Local Centre. You will be shown around the home and you will be able to ask any questions you may have about the home and the surrounding neighbourhood. You will then be able to let us know if you are still interested.

If I attend a viewing and I am successful for the home when will I sign-up for the tenancy?
The sign-up usually takes place on the same day straight after the viewing. Where possible we will always arrange the date and time with you to make sure that it is convenient for you.

Can someone sign-up for a home on my behalf if I am unable to?
Yes, a relative can sign for you, though you will need to complete and sign a ‘Proxy’ form giving your permission.

What will happen at the sign-up?
A housing officer will provide you with a range of information and explain your tenancy conditions. They will also help you to complete forms such as a housing benefit form. The signup will take around one hour. If you require information on what Local Housing Allowance you may be entitled to please phone the Housing Benefits department on 01782 232982.

If I do not attend the viewing or if I refuse a home will this affect my application?
No, your banding and waiting time will not be affected. However, if you have been accepted as homeless you will need to speak to your homeless officer as this may affect your application.

What will happen to a home if it is refused?
We will re-offer the home from the shortlist, or in the case of multiple viewings we will invite the next three. If there is no one else on the shortlist we will re-advertise the home in the Homeline freesheet.

If you have more questions please phone 01782 232126 and we will be happy to answer them.

Please respect the privacy of tenants, please do not approach homes advertised in the Homeline freesheet unless you are attending a viewing, thank you.
