Sheltered housing

Stoke-on-Trent City Council has seven sheltered housing schemes across the city:

Lady Bennett Court - Longton
Queen Elizabeth II Court - Fenton
Newhouse Court - Abbey Hulton
Lily Gertrude, Simister Court - Tunstall
Union Court - Hanley
Wooldridge Court -Smallthorne
Doris Robinson Court – Meir

Sheltered housing is for independent individuals or couples over the age of 60. If you are interested in this type of accommodation you will be assessed by our Community Support Team to make sure that you have a need and are suitable. It is not suitable for those requiring a high level of care.

Facilities Include:
• support and advice from the scheme co-coordinator;
• guest room, common room/lounge;
• social activities and functions;
• laundry facility;
• security and safety;
• cleaning provided for all communal areas;
• communal garden maintained by the council;
• connected to the city council’s 24 hour Lifeline service.

Rents are around £60-£70 per week, heating is included in the rent. Please note that pets are not allowed.

Retirement Villages

Bradeley Village
Bradeley Village, Bradeley, is owned by Staffordshire Housing Association. It is made up of five different apartment blocks: Pioneer Place, Unwin Terrace, Celebration Court, The Outlook, and the Village Centre. All apartments are available to couples and single people over 55. The village has many attractions, including resident-run businesses for use by residents, their friends and families. These businesses include a coffee shop, licensed bar, general store, guest room, thrift shop and video library.

Facilities include:
• salon: professional on-site hairdressing for men and women at very reasonable prices;
• hobbies rooms: painting, flower arranging, sewing and so on;
• library: loads of books for avid readers;
• village centre: seating, eating and socialising;
• atria: quiet, light, airy spaces to sit and relax;
• on-site staff: to give you advice and support during the week and a 24 hour telephone call system for extra support should you need it.

There are always lots of other things happening at Bradeley Village, including line dancing, mild aerobics, bingo, productions by the resident drama group, songs by the resident singers and much, much more.

Weekly rent is around £80.00 per week. Please note service charge, support services and water rates are not included in the rent.

Rowan Village
Rowan Village, George Avenue, Meir, is owned by Staffordshire Housing Association. It is a contemporary development that was completed in 2008. There are 75 self contained, one and two bedroom apartments for the over 55’s.
Rowan Village allows residents to live an enjoyable independent and purposeful life within a mixed community, making the most of retirement, as well as giving reassurance to family and friends.

Rowan Village has many communal facilities including a hairdressing salon, general store, restaurant, gym, event rooms, conservatory/café, healthy living centre and landscaped gardens. There are also lots of social opportunities and activities within a secure, supportive environment.

For customers with no formal care needs vacancies are advertised in the Homeline freesheet. If you are interested, you must register with Stoke-on-Trent City Council and place a bid.

There are staff on site 24 hrs a day to provide support and care. For those who need care, this enables you to remain in your home for longer.

If you have care requirements and would like to live at Rowan Village you need to discuss this with your social worker who will assess you. These vacancies will not be advertised in the Homeline freesheet.

Average weekly rent charges are £58.00 for a one bed apartment and £65.00 for a two bed apartment. Please note there is a community and amenity fee which is not included in the rent.

West End Village
Staffordshire Housing Association is building another outstanding contemporary village for retirement living. There will be 100 spacious two bedroom apartments.

West End Village, London Road, Stoke, will provide apartments where you can have an independent purposeful life, making the most of your retirement.

The village will offer the over 55’s a lifestyle with lots of social opportunities and activities within a secure supportive environment.

There will be lots of facilities, including a restaurant, shop, lounge, hair salon,
conservatory, landscaped gardens with patios, and a fitness and spa suite.
